Natural Gas
Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel in the market. Unprocessed it is a mix of hydrocarbon gases in which methane prevails, a colorless substance with no smell that is lighter than air. Natural gas forms when organic matter, plants and small sea animals, is trapped deep in the Earth's crust and subjected to pressure and heat. Over the course of 200 to 400 million years, the organic matter decomposes and turns into natural gas.
Because of its many benefits, a fourth of the energy consumed in the U.S. comes from natural gas. In Puerto Rico , natural gas supplies between 13 and 15% of electric power. Natural gas consumption is expected to continue to grow rapidly around the world.
